Thaumapunk

Thaumapunk (from Greek "thaumos" originally meaning "miracle," but has come to mean "magic" in the popular lexicon) is a type of fantasy that emulates the cyberpunk genre replacing high technology with high magic. The dystopia and grittiness of its cyber cousin remain intact, however, and rather than exploring the effects of advanced technology on society the theme becomes widespread adoption of magic and its advancement (or retardation) of said society.
