Advertising on Metrophor
Metrophor no longer runs its own advertising. Since moving over to Project
Wonderful, all bidding for advertising space is handled on that site.
We're currently experimenting with ad box formats, so you can bid on the
full-width 468x60 banner
or either of the
half-width 234x60 banners
.
Prices fluctuate because Project Wonderful uses a bidding model, so an accurate
estimate of advertising cost is impossible to write down here.
Advertising Guidelines
The following criteria apply to any advertisements placed on
Metrophor:
-
Ads must be static images. No animated GIF or PNG files.
-
Ads must be images
only
. Ads using Flash, Shockwave, Javascript,
or any other dynamic or interactive technology will be denied.
-
No pornography or other naughty stuff. If you think you
can come up with a way of tastefully using nudity to sell
merchandise
then
we can talk. Until then, forget it. Kids browse this
site, too... probably.
-
No scam sites. If you're going to scam people, don't come here. In
addition to being denied, such ads and sites will be greatly and gleefully
mocked in the news posts and forums.
-
No ads designed to masquerade as system services or dressed up in other
misleading guises. Examples include ads made to look like system alerts,
operating system windows, windows from other programs such as chat clients or
email clients, and windows proclaiming that the recipient has email in his or
her inbox. That's just
skeevy
.
-
No political ads. Go to CNN or the New York Times for that stuff.
-
We reserve the right to reject ads for any reason.
Past Ads
Ever see an ad that interested you just as you were clicking a link,
only to hit the back button and find it replaced with something lame? We have
an archive of all ads run on this site through which you can browse and
find that one Golden Ad. This can also serve as an indicator of what sorts of
ads we'll run on this site.
This list is no longer being maintained since moving to Project Wonderful
for advertising (in August of 2007). However, these are the ads that we ran
before that time.
